If walls could talk would they sing

Sound piece

2010

Composed in collaboration with Brendon Bussy

Partly narrative, partly thematic, the score of this piece takes as its basis the facade of the building in which the work was shown - then belonging to Whatiftheworld Gallery. The building had previously been the meeting house of an old Jewish synagogue, and the composition melodically traces the interwoven textures of the local Woodstock community into the present day.

The relocation of galleries to areas undergoing processes of urban renewal can enable creative reinvention but its can also lead to gentrification. This exhibition was the gallery's first in its new Woodstock premises. In keeping with my attempt to draw a narrative continuity between the exhibition, its location, the viewer and the gallery through the production of a fictional construct, I commissioned and developed a soundtrack as an accompaniment to the show.
